Activities

Project action focuses on regional cooperation towards minimization of risk and exploitation of opportunities from a changing climate. The project has been designed with three core components apart from management and coordination, namely 'communication and dissemination', 'exchange of experiences' and 'policy formulation', all running in parallel to maximize synergies. Each of the aforementioned components is linked with one or more project objectives:

  • Management of project implementation
  • Dissemination, awareness raising and broad understanding of opportunities and risks of a changing climate
  • Capacity development of involved regional institutions, set up of regional cooperation mechanisms and support of the public debate on adaptation strategies and good practices
  • Development of regional strategies / policies and making use of regional cooperation mechanisms

The foreseen approach places emphasis on the implementation of joint initiatives, involving either all project partners together (for example organization of joint seminars and workshops) or sub-groups of the project partnership selected on the basis of geographical relevance (e.g. elaboration of adaptation strategies best suited in the regional context of South / Central / North Europe). In this context, all activities within the three core components anticipate a close cooperation among participating regional authorities and institutions. The project partners will have the opportunity to work together in (among other activities) a series of seminars and workshops, the production of good practices and the elaboration of adaptation strategies; however, the use of e-tools, such as e-conferences on “Skype” and other web applications has been planned, to facilitate communication among partners and improve cost-effectiveness.

In line with the intended project results and outputs, key activities within each component involve:

  • Set up of management structure / Kick-off meeting; Overall coordination and project management; day-to-day project management; Auditing and Reporting to EC
  • Organization of launch and closing Public Information Meetings; Production of awareness and dissemination material such as a mini-documentary, a layman’s booklet on best practices and a project brochure; Participation of the partnership in the 2009 & 2010 DG Regio – CoR ‘Open Days’ events
  • Organization of a series of joint thematic seminars and workshops; development of a web portal for Climate change information exchange; elaboration of a good practice guide for regional authorities
  • Coordination with other regional policies; elaboration of joint climate change adaptation strategies for south, central and north European regions; organization of a networking event for policy makers
