Partnership for RegioClima project proposal

The Larnaca District Development Agency is a non-profit organization formed in 2003 to develop and implement structures and mechanism that function in the European Union. Its actions cover mainly the district of Larnaca. The Development Agency of Larnaca, represents the 4 Municipalities of the district of Larnaca, 46 Community Councils of the district of Larnaca, the Local Commercial Industrial Chamber of Larnaca, the Ladies Association of Rural Larnaca, the COOP of Psematismenos, Tochni and Skarinou and the Union of Communities of Larnaca (its members are all the Community Boards of the district of Larnaca).

The competences and experiences are based on the needs of the District Larnaca:
1 Development planning of the broader area.
2 Technical support to the public and the authorities of the district in the fields of education and preparation, to improve the quality of life and general socio-economical development co-operations.
3 Undertaking initiatives in subjects of protection of the environment preservation of the cultural inheritance and development of its internal cohesion.
4 Development of the relations between the Local Self-Government of Cyprus and the Member-states of the European Union, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and the Balkan Countries.
5 Promotion of the possible collaboration of the Local Self-Government with the Public and Semi-Public authorities and the Private sector.
6 Establishment of strong Networks for the creation, exchange and dissemination of innovative ideas and best practices.

A strong, clear and legal co-operation between the local, regional, European partners is a necessary basic for a sustainable implementation of our needs especially as an island. The participation in the current project will support the strengthening and further development of the Larnaca district on the issue of Climate change adjustment.

The Larnaca District Development Agency has participated in the implementation of several E.U. funded projects. Some of them are:

  • Program “New Routes for Women”, which belongs to the C.I. ‘EQUAL’

The Agency also participates as a member to several European Networks such as 'FEDARENE', 'RETIS', 'EUROPEAN NETWORK FOR SOCIAL POLICY', 'ASSOCIATION OF EUROPEAN ECONOMIC INTEREST', etc. Through these participations and the cooperation with the other members of the Networks, the Agency is trying to achieve its aims.
